About Galichica
Galichica National Park lies between Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa, making it one of North Macedonia's top hiking areas. It is easily accessible from both Ohrid and Bitola.
The park spans 227 km2 and is home to more than 1,600 plant species, including many endemic plants found only in this mountain region. Hikes in Galichica reward you with amazing views of both lakes and the nearby mountains in Albania and Greece.
Hiking Options
1. Lako Signoj Peak - Two Lakes Panorama
- Difficulty: Easy
- Start: Galichica Pass, 1,600 m
- Highest point: Lakosignoj Peak, 1,990 m
- Duration: Around 2 hours
Short and scenic hike to a panoramic viewpoint where you can see both Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa. Great for beginners and casual hikers.
2. Village Trail Above the Lake
- Difficulty: Easy
- Route: Velestovo, Elen Peak, Konjsko and Elshani
- Altitude: 1,070 m to 1,200 m to 890 m
- Distance: Around 10 km
- Duration: Around 3 hours
This trail passes through traditional villages with cobbled streets and stone houses, offering sweeping views of Lake Ohrid. Optional lake swim or city transfer at the end.
3. Magaro Peak - The Roof of Galichica
- Difficulty: Moderate
- Start: 1,600 m
- Peak: 2,255 m
- Elevation gain: 700 m
- Duration: 4-5 hours round trip
Climb to the highest point in the park for the best views over both lakes and into the Albanian and Greek mountain ranges.
